Friday – Wandsworth Common Revisited

Yesterday we decided to go to Wandsworth Common. Stephen spent two years there when he was studying in London and he has shown Matt and I photos that he took of the Common in different seasons. He enjoyed walking on the Common, although he found he could not recognise many of the features and walkways. He remembered the Whitehouse, now a cafe. We joined a section where there was a storyteller talking about the history of the Common. Unfortunately, the storyteller got bogged down in the Stone Age, going into more and more detail for his audience, one small boy. We decided to get going as we still wanted to go to see where Stephen used to live.

We went there via a cemetery where Stephen also liked to walk when he was taking a break from his studies. We found his house and walked into the side road where we could see the window of his bedroom. The owner lived downstairs and Stephen and three others shared the upstairs flat.

Afterwards we walked back to the Common and found a cafe on the main street where we took a long break to rest our legs.

We caught the train back, did a bit of shopping, and arrived home well after dark.
